Kitchen design for victorian cottage renovation, Mabel Fox ltd, Interior Design, Cambridge

This gorgeous newly renovated victorian cottage in a village just south of Cambridge has been sympathetically extended to create a fantastic open-plan kitchen/diner that is super child friendly. Mabel Fox was bought in to design both the new kitchen/dining space and the existing family bathroom. We made sure to keep the tranquil, charming village cottage ambience whilst adding a slightly fresher colour scheme and finish.

We started by giving the traditional shaker kitchen a bit of drama by adding an off-black feature island with oversized pendant lights above, looking fabulous with the soft blue cabinetry elsewhere in the kitchen. The island is painted in Top Hat and the rest in Sea Lavender, both by Fired Earth. The floor is solid oak and brings warmth to the space, which benefits from 3 huge windows and patio doors, so plenty of natural light to play with.

The next room to be renovated was the bathroom, which has been given an authentic Victorian feel, from the tiles, to the roll top bath, to the original fireplace, which has been refurbished beautifully. The vanity unit is bespoke and painted in Inchyra by Farrow & Ball, the colour ties in perfectly with the pattern of the floor tiles. A great family bathroom that is absolutely timeless.
