Note from Katie, the artist behind Mabel Fox
My passion has always been illustration. During my Art Foundation year I created bold botanical prints, these formed the basis of my artistic style. I then graduated from University with a Graphic Design and Illustration degree, but life took me in a different direction. After having my three boys I turned my artistic talents and love of colour into a career in interior design.
I designed and hand burnished an illustration of a bunny rabbit as a Christening gift for my youngest niece, Evelyn, I was then inspired to create a collection of linocut prints featuring woodland creatures. When people requested to purchase copies of these prints I decided to produce limited editions of my designs. The response was overwhelming, so ‘Mabel Fox’ was born.
The fox is one of my favourite animals so after creating ‘Evelyn Bunny’, I chose to create ‘Daniel Fox’ as the next illustration. My great, great aunt was called Mabel Fox, which is why I chose this as my company name. Each design in my current collection is named after one of my children, nieces, nephews, and other special people in my life.
Now, translating my art into beautiful homewares is a dream come true. My bold, Scandinavian style designs appeal to a global audience.
